The humanoid robotics race in May 2026 looks very different from twelve months ago. What was a US-led category of $250K research platforms is now a four-region competition with consumer pricing on the way.

Tesla Optimus Gen 2 remains the volume bet. Tesla has signaled tens of thousands shipping in 2026 — most for internal factory use — at a target price between $20K and $30K once production scales.

Figure 02 sits in commercial deployment at BMW Spartanburg and a quietly-expanding US logistics list. Closed-loop with OpenAI for language. Service-contract pricing per deployed robot per month.

1X NEO Gamma launched into closed-beta home deployment early this year — the only major humanoid going retail-consumer-first, ~$20K with a remote-teleoperated assistance layer.

Apptronik Apollo runs at Mercedes-Benz and GXO Logistics. The most enterprise-friendly platform — ISO-certified, safety-rated soft skin. Enterprise-only annual contracts.

Unitree is the price wrecker. G1 lists at $16K — an order of magnitude below every other humanoid here. H2, G1 Humanoid, wheeled variant, and now the GD01 mecha extend the line aggressively.

The also-runs are not also-runs. Sanctuary Phoenix, Astribot S1 ($50K bench-top), Fourier GR-1 and GR-3 research humanoids, Agility Digit, AgiBot, Booster, Galbot, Kepler, XPeng, UBTECH, LimX, DEEP each pursue a credible angle.

What is coming Q3-Q4 2026: Tesla Optimus Gen 3, Figure 03 (rumored), commercial deployments of Apptronik Astra. The price wars start when the second wave ships.
