ABB pairs precision robots with AI vision tools at CIIF 2026

ABB’s compact precision arms combine higher payloads and integrated cabling with a vision workflow for training and deploying robotic AI applications.

ABB’s CIIF 2026 announcements in Shanghai connect compact industrial hardware with tools for turning camera images into robot motion. The IRB 1700 and IRB 1700ID target precision manufacturing, while OmniCore EyeMotion and AI Robot Trainer bring image acquisition, model training and deployment into a shared workflow.

Compact arms for precision tasks

According to ABB, the family spans payloads of 6–12 kg and delivers up to 20% shorter cycle times than comparable robots on the market. ABB lists path repeatability down to 0.03 mm and joint speeds of up to 700 degrees per second. These are manufacturer specifications, rather than RoboHub measurements.

ABB identifies material handling, arc welding, deburring, sanding and machine tending as target applications. The IRB 1700ID routes cables and hoses inside the arm through its Integrated Dressing design, simplifying installation. ABB also reports a 50% smaller footprint than the predecessor.

Energy and maintenance conditions matter

ABB reports up to 15% lower power consumption compared with its predecessor IRB 1600, running with the same payload on OmniCore. The comparison depends on that stated configuration. The company also specifies service intervals of up to 20000 h between oil changes.

From images to robot motion

OmniCore EyeMotion and AI Robot Trainer connect real shop-floor images, synthetic data, AI model training, deployment and continuous improvement. A guided workflow and AI chatbot support users through the process, while automatic collision-free path planning connects perception with motion.

According to ABB, the integrated solution can reduce commissioning time by up to 90% and cycle time by up to 50% when combined with automatic collision-free path planning. These are ABB’s claims for the integrated workflow. The company describes applications including bin picking, quality inspection, sorting and assembly, and says the tools work with any camera and sensor brand.
