ANYmal X launch: ATEX scope and the ADIPEC inspection demo

ANYbotics announces its hazardous-area inspection robot. What the ATEX rating covers, why IECEx is pending, and what Gulf buyers should check.

ANYbotics announced the commercial launch of ANYmal X on 2026-10-27. In its launch announcement, the company says Equinor and DSM-Firmenich are receiving the first customer units. These are manufacturer statements, rather than independently verified deployments. ANYbotics also says its early-access programme has involved BP, Equinor, Shell, PETRONAS, Petrobras, BASF and SLB since 2023.

What the ATEX rating covers

The ANYmal X product page describes ATEX certification for Zones 1 and 2, Gas Group IIB, temperature class T4, Category 2G (EPL Gb). It excludes Zone 0, explosive dust atmospheres and IIC gases such as hydrogen and acetylene. IECEx certification remains pending: ANYbotics says it will become available with first production, after the production-line audit. Buyers should check the certificate and user manual against their site's classification; the published specifications are preliminary and subject to change.

Inspection sensors and site setup

ANYbotics lists a zoom camera, a 640 × 512 radiometric thermal camera, an acoustic imager and a microphone. Gas sensing is optional. The maker reports more than 3 h of operation per charge, with autonomous docking. Charging and nitrogen refilling take place outside the hazardous area, so the route plan must account for a suitable non-hazardous docking location and the nitrogen refill station.

On RoboHub you can compare the ANYmal X page with the ANYmal D page. RoboHub also lists the Unitree B2-Ex as another explosion-protected inspection quadruped. Unitree's product page also lists IIB and T4 in its explosion-protection markings, but that shared notation alone does not establish equivalent certification scope or site suitability.

ADIPEC and a buyer's next step

ANYbotics says it plans to show ANYmal X with SLB and Kuwait Oil Company at ADIPEC 2026. The event organiser lists 2026-11-02–2026-11-05 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Gulf operators can request a quote or introduction through RoboHub, describing the inspection task, hazardous-area classification and site location. The reviewed manufacturer page publishes no price; ANYbotics describes a site-specific offer after a Business Value Assessment or demonstration.
