Petoi Quaddle: an open-source desktop robot dog on Kickstarter from $144

Petoi, the maker of Bittle and Nybble, is crowdfunding Quaddle: three open-source desktop robot dogs with MSRPs of $179 to $269 and Kickstarter specials from $144.

Petoi, the company behind the Bittle robot dog and the Nybble Q robot cat, has launched Quaddle on Kickstarter: an open-source, palm-size robot dog in three models.

The three models

  • Quaddle Builder Plus: for curious kids and beginners. 4 feedback servos, about 1.5 h of battery life, 170 g. MSRP $179; Kickstarter special $144.
  • Quaddle Buddy: for most people. Adds an AI core (ESP32-S3R8 with 16 MB flash) for talk-and-act and optional smart-home control, plus voice. About 1.3 h, 180 g. MSRP $219; Kickstarter special $175.
  • Quaddle Scout: for makers, educators and researchers. Adds a micro servo and a sense core with 2 infrared distance sensors, 2 light sensors, gesture sensing and optional AI vision on a radar head. About 1 h, 198 g. MSRP $269; Kickstarter special $215.

What all three share

  • Motion core: ESP32-S3FN8 with a gyroscope for balancing and tap reaction.
  • Speed: 1 body length per second walking, 3 body lengths per second gliding, 90° per second spinning in place.
  • Battery: swappable BL10C (1800 mAh), compatible with the BL5C for weight-sensitive experiments.
  • Extension hat: 4 touchpads, 4 RGB LEDs, 2 microphones, 2 Grove sockets, a PIR sensor and a Raspberry Pi UART port.
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB-C.
  • Coding: block coding, Python, MicroPython, Arduino C++ and a simulator; works with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ROS, TuyaOpen and 3D printing.
  • Size: 11 × 7 × 7 cm (Scout: 11 × 7 × 11 cm).

Accessories listed for the campaign include an AI vision module (MSRP $39), a controller ($15), a mini controller ($19), a spare battery with charger ($11) and a smart RGB LED light ($9).
