Stryker and CMR Surgical plan Versius alliance with investment and acquisition option

Stryker and CMR Surgical announced a strategic alliance on 2026-10-12, pairing an equity investment with a U.S. commercial agency agreement for the Versius surgical robotics portfolio.

Investment with a future acquisition option

According to CMR's announcement, Stryker will make an approximately USD 400 million (GBP 300 million) preferred equity investment to support innovation and global commercialization of Versius. The investment is subject to customary closing conditions.

The investment also grants Stryker an exclusive option to acquire 100% of CMR Surgical's outstanding equity in the future, subject to the agreement's terms. CMR states that the transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

Commercial responsibilities by territory

Stryker will serve as the exclusive U.S. sales agent for the Versius portfolio. CMR Surgical will continue to lead portfolio development and commercialization in markets outside the United States.

A soft-tissue robotics portfolio

CMR describes Versius as a modular platform for a broad range of soft-tissue procedures. Its announcement presents the alliance as a way to combine CMR's robotics experience with Stryker's customer relationships and commercial reach.
